When the pandemic hit, fitness junkies across Los Angeles turned to a variety of new training methods to break a daily sweat, while gyms and studios were forced to close their doors. Now new gyms are on the rise and expanding in Hollywood, while other at-home methods are here to stay.

The world’s first concept gym isn’t just about getting fit, it’s a 360 experience where members can cultivate a community. From RSG Group, the corporation behind Gold’s Gym, among other prominent gyms and fitness brands, Heimat has just launched its first club in Hollywood complete with five floors of fitness classes, a spa, a co-working space, a restaurant, a bar, and a rooftop pool spanning 75,000 square feet. One-year memberships offer access to classes of all kinds, including cycling, running, bootcamp, barre, boxing, cardio dance, kinesis, TRX, yoga, and reformer pilates, plus weight rooms, workout areas, and cardio machines. For non-members, the public can access Heimat’s Mother Tongue restaurant, by Michelin-starred chef Michael Mina. The social club can be found at 960 N La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90038. HEIMAT offers three-year membership levels, with its all-access membership at $350 per month.

Supernatural

Calling all VR fans! Whether you’re interested in the VR space or just looking for a new at-home way to spice up a workout routine, Supernatural offers an all-encompassing VR fitness experience. Featuring modern music, a variety of expert trainers, unique VR destinations, and an almost game-like style of exercise, they’ll make people forget they’re even exercising. Designed for use in Oculus Meta Quest 2, Supernatural virtually transports users to places like Machu Picchu, the Maldives or the Great Wall of China for a gamified training experience that includes four different modalities: flow (cardio), stretch, meditation and boxing. There’s even a meditation led by Tiffany Haddish.

“We really talk a lot about finding the joy in movement and helping unlock that for people, whether it’s through fitness games or just making it really fun to break something that explodes,” said the head of product and community marketing. Jonny Ahdout. “And then the result is 30 minutes later, you just did an amazing workout, but it didn’t feel like that. Most people are afraid of exercising, and it is this task that they have to do. Instead, this is drawing him into this fun experience, at least all these physical events, benefits.”

He continued, “For many people, it became their escape. [during the pandemic] of these four walls that they were stuck in all day… No notifications, no other screens, nothing to distract, which I think is really beautiful.”

Boutique fitness brand Trufusion has arrived in West Hollywood, with more than 240 fusion exercise class offerings in tow. Trufusion hits all the major class types, from hot yoga, barre, pilates, bootcamp, circuit training, TRX, cycling, and more, except their unique approach infuses each class with the core principles of yoga. The studio emphasizes the environment that makes each class an immersive experience, thanks to five different training rooms: Sweat, Rock, Breathe, Soul and Ride. Lifestyle Unlimited membership costs $249 per month, while class packages range from 6 for $169 (a special offer for executives), 5 for $179, or 10 for $319.

Learn about the training developed by boxing champion Floyd Mayweather. Mayweather Boxing + Fitness Culver City is the newest fitness club location in Los Angeles, offering members personal training, free time in the gym, free weights, and access to the studio’s group HIIT classes. Classes are selected for all fitness levels. Classes include M45 Strong (a combination of boxing and strength), MBody (a full-body workout, no boxing), M45 Undefeated (a fast-paced HIIT-style boxing session), M60 Champ (the longest class with an element community), Boxing Fundamentals (a workshop to hone your skills) and M45 Advanced Bagwork (for more experienced boxers). Athletes can get 4 classes per month for $99/month, 8 classes per month for $149/month, and unlimited membership for $199/month.

While most Hollywood fitness enthusiasts are familiar with Pilates-style training, Solidcore puts its own spin on the traditional Pilates reformer workout. It’s a 50 minute full body strength workout, in a dimly lit room with blue lights and upbeat music. The entire class takes place on the reformer machine, with class options for full body, arms and abs, buns and arms, buns and abs, and core30. The Solidcore method uses slow, controlled movements to sculpt strong, lean, and long muscles.
